The 41st Chattanooga Area Leadership Prayer Breakfast will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019

Sherman Smith, former NFL player and Super Bowl coach will be the main speaker. Please, see below for Sherman's full biography.

2019 Main Speaker

Sherman Smith


  Sherman grew up in Youngstown, Ohio playing quarterback for North High School. After graduation he played collegiate football for Miami of Ohio. From there, he went on to be drafted in the second round of the 1976 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Sherman spent eight years in the NFL where he was nicknamed "The Tank" because of his hard nosed running style. 


  Following his playing career, Sherman began teaching and coaching. He was an assistant coach for multiple NFL teams including the Houston Oilers (became the Tennessee Titans), Washington Redskins, and Seattle Seahawks. 

  Sherman called plays as the Offensive Coordinator for the Redskins, before winning a Super Bowl as the Running Backs coach for the Seattle Seahawks.

2018 MAIN Speaker

Mart Green

Mart Green began his retail career in the home of his parents as a youth. With $600 his family started Hobby Lobby in their living room, now a chain of over 750 arts and crafts stores. He is the Chief Strategy Officer for the Green Family Businesses and is actively involved with Hobby Lobby, where he serves as Board Chair. At 19, Mart established Mardel, a chain of educational supply stores. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Mardel has 35 stores in seven states.


A native Oklahoman, Mart and his wife, Diana, have enjoyed over 30 years of marriage. They have 4 adult children and 7 grandchildren. In his free time, Mart enjoys running and reading.

This is a totally volunteer organization and all expenses are for the main speaker, the vendors, and the suppliers for the Breakfast. Every year a shortfall has to be covered and the Task Force has always tried to do that in advance. Annually, the Task Force needs $5,000 to $10,000 to cover expenses.
